CAREERS IN JUSTICE U.S. MARSHALS SERVICE
MARSHALS NEEDED

TYPICAL POSITIONS. Deputy U.S marshals are involved in the following activities: (1) court security; (2) fugitive investigations; (3) personal and witness security; (4) asset seizure: (5) special operations; and (6) transportation and custody of federal prisoners.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS. General employment requirements with the Marshals Service include (1) a comprehensive written exam; (2) a complete background investigation; (3) an oral interview; (4) excellent physical condition; and (5) a Bachelor's degree or three years of "responsible experience." Applicants must be between 21 and 36 years of age and be U.S. citizen with valid driver's license.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS. Successful applicants must complete 16 weeks of training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) at Glynco, Georgia.

SALARY. Deputy U.S marshals are typically hired at federal pay grade GS-5 or GS-7 depending on education and prior work history.

BENEFITS. Benefits include (1) 13 days of sick leave annually; (2) 2-1/2 to 5 weeks of annual paid vacation and 10 paid federal holidays each year; (3) federal health and life insurance; and (4) a comprehensive retirement program.
